Chad J. Hammerlind

Chad Hammerlind is a counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Austin office of Haynes and Boone. While practicing at Haynes and Boone, Chad has helped clients obtain hundreds of patents including over 120 patents in 2020 alone. His primary practice includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications relating to medical devices, electrical systems, telecommunication systems, Information Technology (IT), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)/drones, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, geophysics, augmented reality, blockchain, autonomous vehicles, and software.

His practice also focuses on obtaining foreign patent protection from domestically filed patents as well as assisting foreign entities and foreign law firms in entering the US patent system with their foreign filed applications. Specifically, Chad has worked on many Chinese and European applications.

Before joining Haynes and Boone, Chad was a lead IP attorney at a Fortune 50 cloud computing/information technology company. Also, prior to becoming a lawyer, Chad was an engineer in the medical physics and radiation oncology field. He led installations and commissioning of multimillion-dollar radiation oncology treatment systems around the world including imaging systems, patient positioning systems, radiation collimators, and cancer treatment planning software.

  • Pro bono work for Georgia Lawyers for the Arts by assisting inventors in patenting their inventions
  • Participant in the Clemency Project and assisted in the early release of prisoners who were serving long sentences for non-violent drug related crimes
  • Volunteer coach for youth soccer, baseball, and basketball
