October 09, 2020

Haynes and Boone, LLP and its Mexican affiliate, Haynes and Boone, SC have again been recognized in the 2021 edition of the Legal 500 Latin America directory of leading law firms. The directory also recognized firm Partner Edgar Klee and Counsel Eduardo Corzo.

The Legal 500 guide analyzes the capabilities of law firms and lawyers based on feedback from more than 300,000 corporate counsel worldwide. The Legal 500 is an independent guide, and firms and individuals are recommended purely on merit.

The firm was recommended in the following practice areas in Mexico:

Banking and Finance:

  • Legal 500 notes that the practice “handles all types of transactional and regulatory matters, including finance transactions, commercial lending, and syndication and guarantee structures.”
  • Corzo was ranked in the Banking and Finance practice and is noted for his recent work advising “Bancomext on a MX$250m loan to a Mexican consortium as part of a build, own and operate project finance for the new aquarium of Mazatlán, Sinaloa.”

Tax:

  • The firm’s practice is recognized for its work handling “cross border matters – with a particular focus on the oil and gas sector - including corporate and M&A, finance, real estate, and shipping, as well as audits and challenges before the authorities.”
  • Klee is described as “well regarded among his peers for his expertise in non-contentious tax matters,” and for his “corporate tax advice on international taxation, tax counselling for individuals, and customs and foreign trade, among other matters.”

Haynes and Boone has one of the largest Latin American/Caribbean practices among the AmLaw 100 law firms, with approximately 60 lawyers serving clients from our Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, New York, London, Washington D.C., and Austin offices. Many of the firm’s lawyers are native speakers or fluent in both English and Spanish and are comfortable working with civil law and international law concepts. They are experienced in all Latin American and Caribbean markets and have helped clients navigate and complete some of the most ambitious and challenging projects involving transportation, real estate, infrastructure and energy.

Haynes and Boone, SC, the firm’s fully-integrated Mexico City office, was formed in 1994, with lawyers advising on Mexican Law. The firm is unique in having permanent senior Mexican lawyers based in its U.S. offices and conversely having an American expatriate working in its Mexico City office, thereby providing integrated working teams from both its U.S. and Mexican platforms.
