Press Release

Kit Addleman Honored by Dallas Business Journal and CNM Connect for Work with Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas

December 15, 2016

Haynes and Boone, LLP proudly congratulates Partner Kit Addleman who has been named a 2016 Outstanding Nonprofit Director by the Dallas Business Journal (DBJ) and the Nonprofit Board Leader of the Year by CNM Connect for her stellar work with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.

Addleman has a deep passion and longstanding commitment to the Girl Scouts, beginning with her family connection tracing back to the founding of the organization. She has embraced Girl Scouts and its mission her entire life, serving in various capacities throughout the years, ranging from troop leader to cookie mom and most recently as a member of the board for the last five years, one-and-a-half of which she has been chair.

Throughout her tenure, Addleman has challenged the board to focus on governance and oversight and has pushed beyond an operational focus to strategic thinking for the future. She was instrumental in endorsing a formal board assessment, becoming one of the first councils in the country to review its impact and refocus on training, recruitment and governance in a new way.

At the firm, Addleman is a member of the Government Investigations and Investment Funds practice groups. She has also served as chair of the firm's SEC Enforcement Defense Practice Group and co-head of the firm's Crisis Management Practice Group. Addleman defends companies and their executives and directors against charges of civil and criminal misconduct, particularly investigations and litigation by the SEC and Department of Justice. Many of her experiences involve defending allegations of accounting and financial fraud, insider trading, hedge fund and advisor fraud, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations.

Outside of her practice, Addleman is a member of Haynes and Boone’s Diversity Committee and co-chairs the firm’s Women's Leadership Academy for the development of senior associate women. She is also on the board of both the National Society of Compliance Professionals and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service, supporting the missions of financial literacy and money management, investor protection and securities compliance.

For more than 30 years, CNM Connect, previously the Center for Nonprofit Management, has worked to strengthen nonprofits and other stakeholders in the community to help them be better connected, engaged and equipped to tackle issues in a meaningful way by providing management training, certificate programs, executive recruiting and consulting. Its Nonprofit Board Leader of the Year Award recognizes a leader who champions ongoing board development and advocates for high board performance.

Using a panel of independent judges from the National Association of Corporate Directors, the DBJ award honors individuals stemming from nonprofit, private and public companies located in Dallas-Fort Worth who have utilized their own talents in order to guide organizations to success.
