May 25, 2021
With eight ranked appellate lawyers, Haynes and Boone, LLP boasts one of the top-ranked appellate teams in the state, according to the Chambers USA 2021 rankings (Chambers and Partners.)

Haynes and Boone’s Appellate Practice received a Band 1 ranking in Texas — one of only three firms in that tier in Chambers USA 2021. Chambers praised Haynes and Boone’s “superbly talented appellate bench widely seen as among the most accomplished in Texas,” and shared feedback from various sources:

• “Their attention to detail is truly remarkable and they are some of the best critical thinkers I have ever encountered in the appellate space."
• “Haynes and Boone is in the perfect sweet spot, providing the very best work product and integrating with clients' needs.”
• “They provide professional and clear communication on how to size options up and move cases ahead.”

“We are deeply honored at the respect we have engendered among our clients and industry peers,” said appellate Partner Ben Mesches, chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. “It is rare for a firm to boast an appellate bench as deep as ours. Our Chambers USA 2021 ranking reflects that.”

The following Haynes and Boone appellate litigators were ranked in the 2021 Chambers USA directory as leaders in Texas: Mike Hatchell; Anne Johnson; Lynne Liberato; Ben Mesches; Karen Precella; Kent Rutter; and Mark Trachtenberg. And Nina Cortell earned Chambers’ “Star Individual” ranking, one of only two appellate lawyers in the state to receive the distinction.

Commenters offered admiration for all of Haynes and Boone’s ranked appellate lawyers:

Cortell: “She has excellent judgment and is able to look at issues from multiple angles and evaluate how it will play out five or six moves down the line.”

Hatchell: “The dean of the appellate practice in Texas and an extremely gifted mind who helps parties come up with the right arguments and consistently gets the right results.”

Johnson: “She is truly impressive on her feet and her preparation is outstanding." "She is very talented.”

Liberato: “She's as sharp as you can get and sees the overall issues in a case." "She is well-respected in the market."

Mesches: “He's a tremendous brief writer and a terrific oral advocate. He has a first-rate intellect and is as nice as they come. He is amazingly talented.”

Precella: “Her briefing is phenomenal. She's really sharp and has tactical ideas on how to argue a case."

Rutter: “He is a terrific lawyer who is quite accomplished and respected in the state of Texas. He is a lawyer's lawyer."

Trachtenberg: "He is [an] exceptionally good lawyer." "He's extremely thorough and a real talent."
