Bankruptcy Top Gun Lenny Parkins Bolsters Haynes and Boone's NY Practice

October 09, 2007

NEW YORK - Lenny Parkins, one of the most senior Haynes and Boone, LLP partners inside its highly regarded Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy Section, has moved to the firm’s New York office from Houston as part of a long-term expansion strategy.

Mr. Parkins, who has been splitting time between Houston and New York for the past two years, joins fellow senior partner Judy Elkin, who has led Haynes and Boone’s bankruptcy practice in New York for the past three years.  During that time, Elkin has represented a wide variety of corporate clients and financial institutions in high-profile Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings.

“Lenny and Judy are both superb, high-energy lawyers who together bring more than 50 years of experience handling some of the most complex and demanding corporate reorganizations in the country,” says Steve Pezanosky, who chairs Haynes and Boone’s Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy Section.  “Our national restructuring practice and our growing client base on the East Coast and throughout the country will be wonderfully served by Lenny’s presence in New York.”

Adds Terry Conner of the firm’s board of directors: “Lenny and Judy will spearhead our efforts to aggressively grow our bankruptcy and restructuring practice in New York.  With these two leading the way, Haynes and Boone is poised to expand its involvement in major Chapter 11 cases filed all over the country.”

The firm’s bankruptcy practice, which is ranked No. 1 in Texas by Chambers USA, has developed a truly national scope over the past several years through a series of high-profile matters, including the representation of Highland Capital Management in the Delphi Corporation Chapter 11 case; representation of Bank of America in the Adelphia Chapter 11 case; and representation of Mirant Corporation as Debtors’ counsel in its Chapter 11 case.  In recent years, the firm acted as Debtors’ counsel in the Chapter 11 case of Atlas Air, Inc. and represented the Co-Chair of the Creditors’ Committee in Enron’s Chapter 11 case.  Haynes and Boone also currently represents The Bombay Company in its Chapter 11 case pending in Fort Worth, Texas.

“We are fortunate to have one of the deepest and most talented bankruptcy groups in the country, anchored by Robin Phelan and Bob Albergotti in Texas and Lenny and Judy in New York,” says Mr. Pezanosky.  “Our insolvency practice will continue to grow across the country and internationally over the next several years, and Lenny’s move to New York is a significant step in that direction.”
