Randy Brown Ascends to Board of Grand Canyon Conservancy

December 02, 2019

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Randy Brown has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Grand Canyon Conservancy, the official nonprofit partner of Grand Canyon National Park that he has supported for about a decade.

Brown set his sights on the board about five years ago after becoming enchanted with the park, joining the organization as a member, and talking with other leaders about the conservancy’s mission.

“My motivation for serving on the board is to put my passion for the canyon to work,” Brown said. “The conservancy’s mission is to preserve and protect the Grand Canyon, which has many challenges. I hope in my role to help preserve and protect the canyon for many generations to come.”

Brown has been intrigued with the park since his first visit in 2003. Since then, he has taken seven backpacking trips and two river trips through the canyon.

In October 2013, conservancy CEO Susan Schroeder met with Brown in Dallas and talked with him about the group’s preservation projects and educational programs. She also introduced him to a Dallas physician and former board member who ultimately nominated Brown for the post.

Brown’s election coincides with the national park’s centennial celebration, which commemorates 100 years of the National Park Service at the Grand Canyon and acknowledges the canyon’s significant cultural history and relationships with the park’s 11 traditionally associated tribes.

At Haynes and Boone, Brown serves as chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. He focuses on intellectual property law and has more than 30 years of experience in the field. He was recently listed in the 2020 edition of The Best Lawyers in America directory published by Woodward/White, Inc. for Patent Law.
