Alicia Calzada Named a 2015 Outstanding Lawyer by the San Antonio Business Journal


Haynes and Boone, LLP Associate Alicia Calzada has been named an Outstanding Lawyer for 2015 by the San Antonio Business Journal (American City Business Journals).

The selected lawyers represent a wide cross-section of the San Antonio legal community, including large firms, boutique firms, government agencies and corporations. Recipients are honored for their track record of excellence that has had an impact on their organizations, industries and communities.

At the firm, Calzada is a member of the Media and Entertainment Practice Group. She has experience in general litigation with an emphasis on matters involving defamation, First Amendment , social media counseling as well as intellectual property matters pertaining to copyright and trademark infringement claims. She was also closely involved in the effort to obtain passage of Texas’ new anti-SLAPP statute in 2011 and much of her practice focuses on defending clients against SLAPP suits.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Calzada was a photojournalist for more than 20 years.  She is a past president of the National Press Photographers Association, and serves as an attorney for that group. Calzada speaks and writes regularly on legal issues affecting journalists. She is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, the Bexar County Women's Bar Association and American Bar Association's Forum on Communications Law.

Award recipients will be honored at an upcoming luncheon at Pearl Stable in San Antonio.
