The 2020 edition of the Chambers Global legal directory highlighted seven Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers across four practice areas as leading providers of legal services in the international marketplace.
Researchers and clients praised the firm, along with individual lawyers and a number of practice areas, which were recognized as industry leaders in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico and Latin America.
Global Rankings
The firm’s Franchise and Distribution Practice Group was again ranked in the global-wide category. The group is described as “renowned for its franchise-related litigation and arbitration practice” with “notable expertise in the restaurant and hospitality sectors.” The group was additionally praised for being "very good with strategic planning and advice on the global side."
Partner Rob Lauer, co-head of the Franchise and Distribution Practice Group, maintained his high ranking in Chambers Global. In talking about Lauer’s practice, clients noted that "it is absolutely obvious when he speaks how much experience he has on international matters."
Latin American Rankings
Haynes and Boone’s Corporate/M&A Practice Group was recognized by Chambers as a “key corporate practice” with its skill “at handling Latin American mandates.”
Chambers recognized Partner Larry Pascal, co-chair of the firm’s International Practice Group, for his "excellent knowledge base and practical approach to dealing with legal issues. Commentators say he is well-versed in Latin American corporate matters, having recently advised on joint venture agreements, M&A and other corporate matters in Colombia and Mexico.
Mexico Rankings
The firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Department was recognized as being “adept at handling oil and gas mandates.” The group is also cited for its “notable presence in Texas for oil and gas mandates.”
In the Tax: Non-Contentious practice category, Partner Edgar Klee, the administrative partner of the firm’s Mexico City office, is praised for his knowledge of “the international market and how the tax issues impact Mexican companies.” Sources note that Klee’s “added value” is his desire to understand his client and get to know them.
U.S. Rankings
The firm’s Bankruptcy/Restructuring department was again ranked in the directory.
Firm Co-Founder and Partner Mike Boone was recognized as a Senior Statesperson in Corporate/M&A (International Cross-Border). Boone is cited as "a great lawyer" who has extensive experience in a host of transactional matters.
Partner Charles Beckham is recognized in the Bankruptcy/Restructuring Department for his “immense experience of restructurings and insolvencies in the oil and gas sector.” Sources describe him as "a calm presence" and "a very effective lawyer," and report that he is "someone who clearly knows his way around a courtroom."
Commentators praised Partner David McCombs in the Intellectual Property – Patent practice area and described him as "one of the best, not just of patent practitioners but practitioners generally. McCombs is lauded as being “extremely organised, responsive, thoughtful and calm."
U.K. Rankings
Partner Melanie Willems, head of international arbitration in the firm’s London office, is ranked in the Dispute Resolution: International Arbitration Practice Group in the U.K. Chambers notes that Melanie “demonstrates particular skill in the energy and construction sectors.”
