Haynes and Boone Shortlisted for China Law & Practice Award for Natixis Representation in $571 Million New York Hotel Acquisitions

August 05, 2016

A team of Haynes and Boone, LLP real estate lawyers has been shortlisted for a highly regarded Deal of the Year Award for its representation of Natixis Real Estate Capital in the $571 million purchase of a majority stake in seven Manhattan hotels.

The publication China Law & Practice named the firm and five others as potential winners of the Real Estate & Construction category of the annual awards program designed to recognize excellence in the legal profession.

New York Partners Ralph Arpajian and Walter Schleimer joined with New York Counsel Daniel Lisk to represent Natixis in the financing that gave Chinese investment firm Cindat Capital Management controlling interest in the hotel portfolio from Philadelphia-based Hersha Hospitality Trust. Natixis and Oaktree Capital Management provided $335 million for the transaction.

The Cindat purchase will be judged against four other deals in the category by the editorial teams of ALM's China Law & Practice, The Asian Lawyer/The American Lawyer and Legal Week. Winners will be announced in Sept. 21 ceremonies at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Beijing.

"This year's list of finalists displays a flourishing pipeline of deals and outstanding law firm performances in one of the world's most complex and lucrative markets," the judges said in making the shortlist announcements.

The Cindat financing was made up of a $285 million senior loan from a syndicate of domestic and international lenders led by Natixis, as well as a $50 million mezzanine loan from an affiliate of Los Angeles-based Oaktree.
