DAABA Elects Albert Tan to Board of Directors


The Dallas Asian American Bar Association (DAABA) has elected Haynes and Boone, LLP Finance Partner Albert Tan to a two-year term on its board of directors.

Mr. Tan has long been an active DAABA member and advocate for the Asian American legal community. He received DAABA’s Outstanding Member Award in 2009 in recognition of his contributions to the organization, its members and the Asian-American legal community.

In 2009, the Asian American Law Students Association (AALSA) at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law tapped Mr. Tan as the recipient of its Outstanding Attorney Achievement Award.

Mr. Tan is a board member of The Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art Museum, an advisory board member of The Asia Society of Texas, an executive council member for the State Bar of Texas International Section and Asian Pacific Interest Section, an honorable advisory board member of the Dallas Asian Professional Exchange, and a Dallas Bar Foundation Fellow. Mr. Tan also serves on the Texas Supreme Court Task Force on International Law Practice in Texas.

At Haynes and Boone, Mr. Tan formerly served as a co-chair of the firm's attorney development and diversity committees. In his practice, he represents investment and commercial banks in connection with bank financings for private equity funds in the United States, Europe and Asia. He also counsels U.S. and Chinese corporations on foreign direct investment projects in China and the United States. Principal clients include Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, United Overseas Bank, Unipower, and Great Wall Drilling Company.

From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Tan was based in Hong Kong, where he served a secondment as Chief Counsel for Caltex Corporation (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation), responsible for all Caltex legal affairs in Greater China, and worked on FDI projects in China and other parts of Asia.
