Dallas Bar Association Honors Rafael Anchia with MLK Justice Award

DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Rafael Anchia has been named recipient of the Dallas Bar Association’s 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award, which recognizes local leaders whose lives and practice exemplify the principles embodied by Dr. King’s leadership.

“Rafael is truly a worthy recipient of this award,” said DBA President Scott McElhaney. “His commitment to creating a more fair and just society has been a guidepost throughout his career in public service, and his works should serve as an inspiration to us all.”

Anchia currently serves as the Texas State Representative for District 103, which includes parts of Dallas, Irving, Carrollton and Farmers Branch, and is a member of the Democratic National Committee. He also chairs the International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.

He previously served as vice chair of the Pensions, Investments and Financial Services Committee and on the Sunset Advisory Commission. He also served as chairman of the Board of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund, a leading national nonprofit and non-partisan organization that facilitates full Latino participation in the American political process from citizenship to public service.

At Haynes and Boone, Anchia represents financial institutions and public and private funds in a variety of transactions involving, among other things, senior and subordinated debt and equity, domestic and international syndications and distressed debt acquisitions and sales. He also is a member of the firm’s Public Finance Practice Group, where he represents issuers and underwriters on tax-exempt bond transactions.

Anchia will be honored as the Dallas Bar Association’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Award on Jan. 20 at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
