Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program Recognizes Haynes and Boone Pro Bono Services

The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP), a joint program of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, has awarded Haynes and Boone, LLP a Silver Award for Pro Bono Service, recognizing the firm for providing free legal services to the surrounding Dallas community.

“While helping indigent clients navigate the legal system is a reward in itself, the DVAP recognition of our collective efforts is certainly appreciated,” said Debbie McComas, co-chair of the firm’s Pro Bono/Public Service Committee. “Haynes and Boone has a long history of serving the community and we are grateful to the many Haynes and Boone members – lawyers and staff alike – who consistently dedicate their time, talent, and energy to deliver legal services to so many who could not otherwise afford access to our legal system.”

The DVAP Silver Award recognizes firms with 150 or more Dallas office attorneys for their pro bono services.

The annual awards program honors judges, attorneys, court reporters and legal staff who provide free legal services to indigent residents of Dallas County. DVAP has consistently been recognized as one of the country’s most successful programs of its kind. In a 12-month period, DVAP volunteers gave more than 43,000 hours of free legal aid to the less fortunate of Dallas.

At Haynes and Boone, the firm wide Pro Bono / Public Service Committee was formed more than 20 years ago to coordinate pro bono legal work and other public service opportunities and match them to lawyers and staff. The committee includes associates and partners, and the encouragement of pro bono service is reflected in the fact that more than 70 percent of associates and about 40 percent of partners regularly undertake pro bono work.

The firm was recognized at the 29th Pro Bono Awards Reception at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
