Press Release

Edgar Klee, Joel Gonzalez Author Mexico Chapter in The Private Wealth and Private Client Review

November 05, 2019

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Edgar Klee and Associate Joel Gonzalez authored a chapter in the eighth edition of The Private Wealth & Private Client Review, published by Law Business Research Ltd.

The book serves as a reference guide on developments in the private wealth and private client practice area due to the increased cost and complexity of regulation.

Here is an excerpt from their chapter on Mexico:

According to the Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum, in 2018 Mexico ranked 46th out of 140 economies and is placed as one of the most competitive economies in Latin America. Mexico’s improvement is based on efficiency in trade, investments and productivity and, as a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Trade Organization, has become a champion of free trade, with a considerable network of tax treaties, which has given rise to a large amount of wealth being created.

Over the past 18 months, certain events have created both opportunities and obstacles with regard to private investments in Mexico, such as the renegotiation of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the US tax reform, and a new federal administration is in charge for the period 2018–2024.
