Emma Cano Receives the Pedro “Pete” Serrano Leadership Award

SAN ANTONIO – Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Emma Cano has been named recipient of the 2013 Pedro “Pete” Serrano Leadership Award, which is presented annually to a member of the LeadershipSBOT class who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership, integrity and inclusiveness.

“This award embodies the spirit of LeadershipSBOT,” C.E. Rhodes, president of the Texas Young Lawyers Association said. “This year’s honoree led this class the moment she arrived at the first event in Austin. She is organized, thoughtful and successful in all that she does. She sets goals for herself and those she works with – but so subtly, her colleagues don’t realize that they are now part of a master plan.”

At Haynes and Boone, Cano’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation with experience litigating matters in both federal and state courts. Her cases cover a range of commercial issues, including fraud, partnership disputes, franchise-related controversies, contract and construction disputes, bond claims, insurance coverage disputes and other litigation matters. Cano has developed a successful practice defending catastrophic injury and fatality claims in a variety of industries and has represented businesses in numerous tort matters.

Cano received the award at the 2013 State Bar of Texas annual meeting in Dallas.

The State Bar of Texas Board of Directors voted in April 2011 to honor the late Pedro “Pete” Serrano by re-naming the LeadershipSBOT Presidents’ Award as the Pedro “Pete” Serrano Leadership Award. The award is named after Serrano, a member of the inaugural LeadershipSBOT class who died in 2009.
