Haynes and Boone Attorneys Named Houston Bar Committee Officers

HOUSTON— Rita Irani, Of Counsel with Haynes and Boone’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group recently was named chair elect of the Houston Bar Association’s Computer & Online Law Section. Ann Newton, a Partner with Haynes and Boone’s Intellectual Property Contracts and Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Groups was named Treasurer. Ms. Irani and Ms. Newton began their one-year terms on May 14.

Ms. Irani has extensive experience in protecting and enforcing all types of intellectual property for companies ranging from large corporations to start ups and entrepreneurs.  She assists clients in minimizing the risks of litigating intellectual property disputes while maximizing the benefits of intellectual property ownership through carefully planned protection and enforcement strategies. Ms. Irani is a registered patent attorney and a member of the International Trademark Association where she served on the editorial board for Trademark Reporter and served eight years as an editor of the Annual International Trademark Review. She earned her J.D. cum laude from Duquesne University and her B.S. in physics from the Carnegie Institute of Technology of Carnegie Mellon University.

Ms. Newton has more than 15 years of extensive experience representing large and small companies in their day to day legal needs with an emphasis on technology transactions. Her experience with a diverse client group ranges from oilfield service companies, regulated pipeline entities, armored security providers to software development and marketing companies. Prior to joining Haynes and Boone, Ms. Newton was vice president and general counsel for a privately held software company and served as counsel for Tenneco Energy. She was recently named among 78 U.S. attorneys to the BTI Client Service All-Stars for providing superior client service. Ms. Newton earned her B.S. magna cum laude in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University and her M.A. in counseling psychology from Ball State University. She Earned her J.D. from the University of Houston.
