Haynes and Boone Welcomes Most Diverse Summer Associate Class, According to Texas Lawyer

DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP has the most diverse summer associate class of any of the 25 largest law firms in Texas according to a recent edition of Texas Lawyer. As part of its Summer Standouts special, Texas Lawyer invited 25 Texas firms with the largest operations to participate in its 2014 Summer Associate Hiring Survey. According to the survey, minority law students comprise 34 percent of Haynes and Boone’s 2014 summer associate program, the largest percentage of all the Texas-based firms surveyed.

“The diversity of this year’s summer associate class in Texas and across our other offices underscores our firm’s continuing commitment to developing an inclusive pipeline of talented attorneys to serve our clients,” said Dallas-based Nick Even, co-chair of the firm’s Attorney Diversity Committee (ADC). “We are very excited to welcome all the summer associates and look forward to working with them.”

New York Partner Madelyn Calabrese, ADC co-chair, added: “These kinds of results don’t happen by accident and we will continue to focus on diversity and inclusion at all levels of our firm.”

As part of its diversity efforts, Haynes and Boone created the ADC, which includes more than 60 lawyers, management and administrative team members and has seven sub-committees that regularly engage with clients, colleagues, the surrounding communities and within the firm on diversity and inclusion initiatives. The committee develops programs, with the goal of advancing the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse lawyers in the firm.

Through the ADC efforts, Haynes and Boone has received various accolades for its diversity inclusion programs. Honors include the prestigious Thomas L. Sager Award in 2013, presented by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association in recognition of the firm’s commitment to diversity, the 2014 Diversity Leader Award by Profiles in Diversity Journal, and the 2013 Gulf Coast Corporate Commitment Award by the Texas Diversity Council, recognizing the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in the business community.
