Haynes and Boone’s Jonathan Pressment Elected To Serve A Second Term As A Director of the New York County Lawyers’ Association

NEW YORK – Haynes and Boone, LLP litigation Partner Jonathan Pressment has been elected to serve a second term as a director on the New York County Lawyers’ Association (NYCLA) Board of Directors, this time for a three-year period. Founded in 1908, NYCLA is one of the largest and most influential bar associations in the country with more than 9,000 active members.

Pressment, whose practice includes the representation of numerous Fortune 500 companies in a variety of high-profile civil litigation matters, just completed a two-year term on NYCLA’s board during which outgoing President Barbara Moses selected him to lead NYCLA’s Task Force on Indigent Criminal Defense. That group will scrutinize the current system for budgeting, financing and selecting the lawyers assigned to meeting New York City’s indigent defense obligations, hold the city accountable for any shortfalls, and make recommendations for improvement. Pressment’s efforts in leading the Task Force were singled-out by President Moses at NYCLA’s 2014 Annual Meeting and Induction of Officers and Directors held May 29 at NYCLA’s Home of Law. Pressment has also been selected to represent NYCLA at the New York State Bar House of Delegates.

Pressment’s efforts to lead NYCLA’s Task Force on Indigent Criminal Defense are just the latest effort by the firm and Pressment to make their civic contributions count. In 2010, Pressment, David Siegal and other Haynes and Boone attorneys began working pro bono on behalf of NYCLA and the bar associations of each of the other four New York counties in a lawsuit against Mayor Bloomberg, the City of New York and the mayor's criminal justice coordinator relating to the provision of indigent defense services in New York City's criminal courts. The firm took the case all the way to the New York State Court of Appeals.

“Jonathan’s extraordinary dedication to this great cause is emblematic of our firm’s commitment to New York and its vibrant legal community,” said Kenneth Bezozo, New York office managing partner. “As our office continues its rapid growth, getting our people into key leadership positions like this is becoming more and more important to Haynes and Boone. His efforts make us proud.”

Haynes and Boone recently signed papers to take an additional 38,193 square feet of space at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, giving it a total of 113,000 square feet – the entire 24th, 25th and 26th floors – at the iconic address. The firm is now the largest law firm located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and is one of the hundred largest firms in the country.
