DALLAS – The international law firm of Haynes and Boone today confirmed that seven lawyers will join Haynes and Boone effective March 15, 2004.  These lawyers will establish the firm’s new Franchise and Distribution Practice Group to serve the firm’s Texas, Mexico and East Coast office locations.

The incoming lawyers, all formerly with Jenkens & Gilchrist, P.C., bring to Haynes and Boone an internationally recognized franchise practice. These attorneys were attracted to Haynes and Boone because of its existing intellectual property, litigation, international, corporate and finance expertise. With the addition of their far-reaching experience and expertise in franchising, Haynes and Boone will rank among the world’s most capable firms in delivering legal services to franchisors on a global basis.

Prior to formally establishing the new practice group, Haynes and Boone represented 22 percent of the top 50 global franchises. With the expansion of expertise, including the incoming attorneys and their clients, Haynes and Boone will increase its market penetration to 34 percent of the top 50 global franchises.

Attorneys joining Haynes and Boone are: Joyce Mazero, former Chair of Jenkens’ Franchise and Distribution Practice, Charles Cannon and Deborah Coldwell in Dallas, Texas; and Jan Gilbert and Carl Zwisler in Washington, DC. Two associates also will join the Dallas team.

Haynes and Boone Managing Partner Robert Wilson said, “We believe that the addition of these attorneys on March 15 will provide Haynes and Boone with an unprecedented ability to provide comprehensive legal services to our clients and to the international franchise community. We will be better able to respond to our client’s needs, both nationally and internationally. Our existing platform will be broadened and deepened because of the capabilities of these highly respected and widely recognized attorneys.”

The franchise group is one of the world’s acknowledged leading franchising practices, including respected leaders of the bar with international reputations for excellence.

Joyce Mazero added, "The strength of Haynes and Boone’s growing international footprint, substantial litigation experience, superior intellectual property practice and unique culture, made this the right decision for us. Our franchise and distribution clients will benefit from the firm’s multidisciplinary team approach to client service supported by its many diverse practice groups. Haynes and Boone’s existing clients will be able to access franchise and distribution services from top franchise professionals while continuing to rely upon the firm that has earned their respect. This new relationship also offers the practice the opportunity to grow from a strong platform in Washington, DC., Mexico City and New York."
