Ken Hurwitz Joins Haynes and Boone as Partner

WASHINGTON, DC— Haynes and Boone, LLP, a full-service corporate law firm, announced that Ken Hurwitz has joined its Washington, D.C. office as Partner. Mr. Hurwitz is the latest addition to the Firm’s rapidly expanding Energy/Power Practice Group.

Mr. Hurwitz conducts a diverse energy practice, advising and representing clients from every sector of the electricity and natural gas industry.  He is a former Executive Director of the Maryland Public Service Commission, and has more than 20 years of experience before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, numerous state utility commissions and the federal appellate courts.

Mr. Hurwitz’s extensive experience in energy law most recently has included representation of developer of largest power plant in the United States in FERC generator imbalance services proceedings and leading an effort to create self-supply option for independent power producers; representation of a power plant developer as lead regulatory counsel in connection with a $215 million project financing for 230-MW power plant, and; representation of a power plant developer in obtaining state commission certificate of public convenience and necessity authorizing construction and operation of a 1,650-MW power plant.

Mr. Hurwitz is the Notes Editor of Energy Law Journal, and also serves as Chairman of the Energy Committee of the American Bar Association’s Administrative Law Section. He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, New York Bar, D.C. Bar Association and Maryland State Bar Association. He earned his J.D. from University of Pennsylvania; his M.B.A. from Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, where he was the recipient of the Wharton Public Policy Fellowship; and his B.A. from Columbia College of Columbia University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
