Five Events, Five Different Cities: Haynes and Boone Completes Ambitious Labor & Employment Law Event Series

Over the last five months, lawyers from multiple Haynes and Boone offices have completed the staging of five major labor and employment law events across five different cities from New York to Houston.

All totaled, the events attracted nearly 400 professionals interested in learning about the latest legal developments in workplace regulations and court cases that affect employees, employers and the company policies under which they operate.

“It takes an incredible effort to produce these programs, but our Haynes and Boone labor and employment lawyers have come to realize how much they mean to clients,” said Matt Deffebach, leader of the firm’s Labor, Employment and Immigration Practice Group. “As you can see by the ever-growing attendance numbers, the issues we are discussing are of increasing importance to the every-day lives of professionals from the C-suite on down. They have come to rely on us for help navigating the modern morass of regulations and workplace court decisions.”

Four of the events were part of the law firm’s long-running Employment Law Updates, which this year attracted more than 330 attendees. These events were begun 27 years ago in Dallas and have now been held in Fort Worth for 25 years, Houston for 15 and San Antonio for 13.

The fifth, “New York Food For Thought,” was an unusual panel discussion that included Chef Dale Talde, the New York restaurant owner and two-time cheftestant on Bravo's Emmy Award-winning culinary show, Top Chef, who discussed some of his own employment law challenges. It was followed by a demonstration of what Chef Dale does best, creating his delicious cuisine for guests to enjoy, and a reception during which in-house counsel, human resources professionals, and business owners could informally chat with the chef and members of the Haynes and Boone team.

Reaction to these programs from attendees has been uniformly supportive. This year, the comments included:

  • “Best CLE seminar I have attended in a very long time. Extremely useful information and talked at a higher level - beyond the basics, very impressive.”
  • “These seminars always reinforce my understanding of the laws and keep me up-to-date on current changes – I appreciate that.”
  • “Today’s program hit so many things that are currently in the news. Thank you!”
  • “I’ve enjoyed this seminar opportunity for years! Topics are current and relevant (very beneficial).”

Deffebach said his group is planning for an even bigger and better series of events next year. “Clearly, they are in-demand and increasingly essential components of managing today’s corporations,” Deffebach said. “I believe they have become key ingredients in our firm’s client-centric approach to providing legal services.”
