Haynes and Boone Maintains Strong Presence in Latin Lawyer 250 International Directory

March 31, 2016

Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers are once again recognized in the Latin Lawyer 250 for their international and Mexico-based legal work, singling out 17 practitioners and eight practice groups for inclusion in the highly-regarded listing of recommended law firms.

On both the international and Mexico lists, editors praised the firm’s aviation, corporate/M&A, energy and real estate & tourism practices. The Mexico list also highlighted the firm’s banking & finance, project finance & infrastructure, tax and mining & metals practices, with editors noting that Haynes and Boone is “more diversified in its service offer” than many other firms and “has been steadily expanding its offering in the country.”

The directory complimented the strength of the firm’s corporate and M&A group throughout the region, noting particular strength in Central America, Peru and Colombia in addition to Mexico and a growing Brazil presence. Researchers noted that the firm is “most visible in Mexico” and boasts a “more fluid cross-border practice than many other rivals with an office south of the border,” noting that many Haynes and Boone lawyers are dual-qualified and split their time between both sides of the border.

Dallas-based Partner Larry Pascal, who is head of the Americas Practice Group, is singled out for his broad, high-profile practice in the region that includes aviation, energy and franchising in addition to corporate/M&A. Alberto de la Pena is also noted as a “key member” of the Corporate/M&A Practice Group, while New York lawyers Gil Porter and Ricardo Martinez are noted for their prominence and added value.

On the energy front, the directory noted the firm’s “strong book of energy-related work across the region” and Partners Hunt Buckley and George Gonzalez were noted for their experience and key contributions. Partner Ariel Ramos was highlighted for his increased oil and gas work and contributions to the firm’s efforts “to build its footprint in the expanding industry,” on top of his more than 20 years of project finance experience.

Partners Luis Moreno and Antonio Diez de Bonilla are highlighted for their “experience on large-scale real estate transactions,” most notably their handling of Blackstone’s $3.3 billion acquisition of General Electric.

Latin Lawyer 250 also touched on recent key hires, including Counsel Thomas Heather, an energy, projects and infrastructure practitioner who joined in 2015, and Nicolas Borda, another well-known energy practitioner who came in as a partner in 2016.
