The London office has received widespread recognition in the 2020 edition of the Legal 500 United Kingdom directory, published by Legalease. The firm improved its ranking in International Arbitration and also remained among the most recommended UK law firms in Oil and Gas and Shipping.
The guide also singled out 12 Haynes and Boone lawyers, four more than the previous year: Phoebe Anderson, Robert Blackett, James Brown, William Cecil, Simon Curtis, Markus Esly, Andreas Dracoulis, Mark Johnson, Glenn Kangisser, Amanda Larrington, Andreas Silcher and Melanie Willems.
The Legal 500 series analyzes the capabilities of law firms across the world, based on feedback from 300,000 clients worldwide, law firm submissions and interviews with leading private practice lawyers.

The firm’s International Arbitration Practice Group improved their ranking in 2019. The directory described the team as being “dynamic, wonderful to work with” and understanding “the big picture.” Melanie Willems is recognized as a Leading Individual and was noted by clients as “exceptionally driven, energetic and able to anticipate what clients want.” The directory also states that “Markus Esly is intelligent, industrious and has his head on his shoulders.”
Legal 500 UK again ranked the firm’s Oil and Gas Practice in the 2019 directory. Clients commend the firm for its “deep specialist industry knowledge and experience.” The lawyers are cited as being “very knowledgeable when it comes to LNG shipping with a broad understanding of both the legal and commercial aspects.” William Cecil, Glenn Kangisser and Amanda Larrington were singled out as notable members of the team. The directory also features Phoebe Anderson as a Rising Star in the practice.
The firm’s Shipping Practice Group maintained a strong ranking in 2019. In addition to Leading Individual Simon Curtis, William Cecil, Andreas Silcher, James Brown and Andreas Dracoulis are recognized as key figures in the practice. Legal 500 UK notes the team as being “strong and professional” and their “responses and advice are clear and prompt, and has logical reasoning.”
