Anti-Defamation League Honors Haynes and Boone Partner Mark Erickson

January 24, 2019

The Orange County/Long Beach region of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has selected Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Mark Erickson to receive the 2019 Marcus M. Kaufman Jurisprudence Award for his many contributions to the legal profession and the Orange County community.

The award is named after former Supreme Court Justice Marcus M. Kaufman, the 103rd Justice of the California Supreme Court and a champion of civil rights. It is given annually to lawyers who make significant contributions to their communities, serve as role models in the legal industry, and exemplify the ADL’s mission. Erickson will be honored April 4 at the Fashion Island Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif., along with fellow award recipients Wendy S. Lindley, a retired Superior Court judge, and Brett Williamson, a partner at O'Melveny & Myers LLP.

A partner in Haynes and Boone’s Litigation Practice, Erickson is a leader in the Orange County bar and community. He is a past president of the Orange County chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, one of the most prestigious lawyer bar groups in the state. He currently is the president of the board of directors of Public Law Center, Orange County’s pro bono legal services organization. Erickson also is president-elect for the Orange County Bar Foundation. Recently, he led a team of Haynes and Boone and Public Law Center lawyers in a pro bono housing discrimination case that resulted in meaningful affordable housing for Orange County residents. In recognition of the firm’s role in the discrimination case, among other matters, the Public Law Center named Haynes and Boone the pro bono law firm of the year in 2017.

“The Marcus M. Kaufman Jurisprudence Award recognizes Mark’s longstanding commitment to his community and to upholding the highest ideals of the legal profession,” said Haynes and Boone Managing Partner Tim Powers. “I am proud that Mark carries on a tradition as the third Haynes and Boone lawyer to be honored by the ADL, an organization that exemplifies so many of the firm’s core values, including equality and justice.”

In 2013, the ADL Southwest Region honored Partner Lynne Liberato with the Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award for her commitment to equality, justice, fairness and Houston community service. The late George W. Bramblett Jr., one of the founding partners of the firm, received the ADL Jurisprudence Award in 2005 in recognition of his long track record of pro bono work and civic engagement.

For over a century, ADL has been among the nation’s premier civil rights and human relations organizations, fighting anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. Through education, legislation, inter-group dialogue and the monitoring of extremist groups, ADL seeks to create a community free from hate and bigotry.
