Firm Recognized for Commitment to Hiring, Retention and Promotion of Minority Attorneys

DALLAS— The Minority Corporate Counsel Association, a nonprofit organization, recently announced that Haynes and Boone, LLP is this year’s winner of the 2002 Thomas L. Sager Award. The association will present the award at its annual Diversity Dinner on Feb. 28 in Houston.

The award is given annually to firms that demonstrate sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys. It is named in honor of MCCA Board of Directors member and DuPonte Company general counsel Thomas L. Sager, who during the course of his career demonstrated a relentless commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession.

Haynes and Boone was selected for this award by the MCCA Board of Directors based on a comparative analysis with other large firms. The analysis considered firm demographics and evaluation of the firm’s efforts related to minority recruitment, retention, mentoring and promotion.

Today, Haynes and Boone, LLP employs more than 425 lawyers from diverse backgrounds. Of those,  more than 12 percent are ethnic minorities and more than 30 percent are female.

MCCA is a non-profit organization committed to the advocacy of expanding hiring and promotion of minority attorneys by corporate law departments and law firms. Its goal is to achieve diversity by providing a variety of resources including publication of the quarterly magazine Diversity and the Bar; research papers on innovative industry practices related to diversity; and regional banquets that showcase successful, diverse law firms and companies.
