Haynes and Boone, LLP proudly announces the promotion to counsel of nine firm associates, representing six practice areas from our Chicago, Dallas, London, New York and San Antonio offices.
The new group of counsel comprises Fiona Cain, Jamie Carter, Teena Grewal, Sarah Jacobson, César Ramirez, Aaron Taggart, Lauren White, Jason Whitney and Helen Conybeare Williams.

Fiona Cain is a disputes lawyer in the London office with 20 years’ experience handling commercial litigation and arbitration. She conducts energy, offshore oil and gas construction, and shipbuilding litigation and arbitration, and her practice primarily focuses on legally and technically complex, high-value maritime and offshore construction disputes. She also has worked on a broad range of contractual disputes involving UK and international parties and cross-border issues. Fiona has represented clients in arbitration disputes under the rules of the LMAA, the ICC, the LCIA and the SCMA, as well as ad-hoc arbitrations and in litigation matters in the Commercial Court and Technology and Construction Court of the Business and Property Courts in London and at mediation. Fiona is a co-author of the chapter on shipbuilding contracts governed by the law of England and Wales in Law Business Research’s Getting the Deal Through – Shipbuilding 2017, having helped write this chapter since 2014 and co-authored it for the 2015 and 2016 editions. She has had articles published in Lloyd’s List, Inside Oil and Gas and Offshore Technology Focus and was the editor for the CDG Knowledge Centre. She received her bachelor of laws degree with honours from Nottingham Trent University in 1996 and her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) from Nottingham Law School in 1997.
Jamie Carter is a member of the Private Client and Estate Planning Group in the Dallas office. Her areas of practice include wealth preservation and estate planning, estate and trust administration and taxation, and charitable organizations. Jamie’s practice focuses on planning and drafting estate planning documents and assisting clients in planning for both large and small estates; family wealth planning and preservation; administering trusts and estates of decedents; and assisting clients with the establishment of tax-exempt organizations. Jamie received her bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 and her juris doctor cum laude from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2006.
Teena Grewal is a lawyer in the firm’s London office with extensive experience providing legal advice on projects and contracts related to the exploration and production of oil and gas. She has advised on many projects for the employment of floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs) in the UK Continental Shelf, Brazil and West Africa and has worked on many drilling contracts. Teena is co-author of Knocking at an open door: The English law approach to mutual indemnities in the offshore oil and gas sector and has written various other articles. Teena previously worked as in-house legal counsel for a major oil and gas company, mainly in the upstream sector. During this time, she advised extensively upon a project to build and operate an offshore pipeline system and develop offshore oil and gas fields in the UK Continental Shelf. She also advised upon a wide range of contracts and other legal issues. Teena also has advised for a number of years upon acquisitions and disposals of shares and assets and the establishment of joint ventures while working both in private practice and as in-house legal counsel for an independent power producer. Teena received her master’s degree from King’s College London and her bachelor of laws degree with honors from Bristol University.
Sarah Jacobson is a member of the Litigation Practice Group in the New York office. She has litigated employment, intellectual property, contract, securities fraud class action and white collar crime matters in federal and state courts across the United States. Sarah’s practice spans many aspects of litigation, including motion practice, discovery, trials and appeals. Sarah is valued by her clients for her excellent interpersonal and communication skills and creative strategic thinking. Apart from her work on behalf of clients, she is an adjunct assistant professor of law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. Sarah was selected for inclusion in the New York Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Thomson Reuters, 2013-2017. She received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 2004 and her juris doctor from the University of Michigan in 2008.
César Ramirez is a foreign counsel in the International Practice Group in the Dallas office, with more than 15 years of experience working on complex projects and legal matters with respect to Mexico and Latin America and the Caribbean at large. César has advised a wide variety of companies in both domestic and international transactions involving the automotive sector, general corporate, aviation, M&A, cross-border transactions, antitrust, energy, real estate and transactions with industrial, commercial, residential and hospitality properties in Mexico and Latin America/Caribbean. He received his master of laws degree from Northwestern University School of Law and his juris doctor from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico. César also completed a Certificate in Business Administration at the IE Business School in Spain.
Aaron Taggart is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Chicago office. He focuses his practice on patent and technology disputes, patent monetization, technology transactions and intellectual property counseling. Aaron counsels clients through all phases of patent disputes, from early dispute resolution through litigation. He has represented clients ranging from Fortune 50 companies to small start-ups in federal courts, international and domestic arbitration, and in post-grant patent proceedings at the USPTO. He also has significant experience advising clients in asserting patents, responding to assertions and in patent licensing negotiations. Aaron received his bachelor‘s degree from the University of Illinois in 2002 and his juris doctor with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 2008.
Lauren White is a member of the Business Planning and Tax Practice Group in the Dallas office. She has experience working with partnerships, limited liability companies, private and publicly held corporations, and individual investors. Lauren advises businesses across a variety of industries regarding tax and business issues from initial formation to disposition. She assists clients in structuring and forming new business ventures and provides ongoing governance and operational advice. Lauren also advises clients on a broad range of federal and state tax matters. Lauren received her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from St. Edward’s University, where she was valedictorian of her class, in 2005; her master’s degree in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University in 2009; and her juris doctor summa cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2009.
Jason Whitney is a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group in the San Antonio office. He is an experienced litigator and registered patent attorney, counseling clients from small to large in obtaining, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights. He has argued patent disputes before the International Trade Commission, defended clients in trademark and copyright lawsuits in various federal courts and prosecuted patents and trademarks before the Patent and Trademark Office. Jason advocates for his clients in complex intellectual property matters and develops innovative solutions for difficult business problems. Before his law career, Jason completed a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Rice University and worked as an engineer supporting NASA Johnson Space Center and the communications systems of the Space Shuttles and International Space Station. Jason received his juris doctor summa cum laude from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
Helen Conybeare Williams is a senior disputes lawyer based in the London office. Her practice focuses on international dispute resolution, as well as contract advice and representation prior to arbitration or litigation, of complex technical cross-border disputes. Helen specialises in disputes in shipbuilding, offshore oil and gas, construction and engineering of major capital projects (including gas and water pipelines, power plants, ports and airports), hotels, and manufacturing and supply of industrial plant and machinery worldwide, relying on English law for their resolution. Helen previously worked for several years in leading international arbitration practices in Paris, where she also gained admission to the Paris bar, representing many French and German clients. She is able to assist clients in French and German. She conducts complex international commercial arbitration matters under major international arbitration rules, including the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SCMA and LMAA rules, on behalf of major multi-nationals across a broad range of industries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, inclusive of High Court litigation, including litigation in support of arbitration and mediations. Helen received her master’s degree in jurisprudence from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford University, England, complemented with a year of legal studies at the Université Robert Schuman, Strasbourg, France.
