Paul Searles Named Haynes and Boone California “Partner in Charge”

SAN JOSE – Paul Searles, a Haynes and Boone, LLP government contracts law practitioner from Dallas, has been appointed “partner in charge” of the firm’s California operations.

Mr. Searles is relocating his primary residence to San Jose but will continue to maintain a Dallas office and provide service to his Texas-based clientele.

“I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities available in California’s vibrant intellectual property and clean tech sectors,” Mr. Searles said. “Our firm’s recent entrance into this market is proving valuable for cross-selling a wide range of our corporate legal services. There is plenty of demand, and we intend to help fill it.”

Mr. Searles said he anticipates picking up contracts work stemming from government activity in California’s aerospace, energy and technology industries. He has practiced for two decades focused on government procurement law, counseling and representing clients on a variety of complex business and litigation matters involving their contracts with the Department of Defense, the General Services Administration, and other federal and state government agencies.

In January, as part of its long-term growth strategy, Haynes and Boone announced the addition of 27 attorneys and professionals from MacPherson, Kwok, Chen & Heid, LLP, a leading intellectual property law firm with offices in San Jose and Orange County. With the merger, Haynes and Boone became one of the few large Texas-based firms with offices in Silicon Valley and Orange County.

“We hate to lose Paul from daily life in our Dallas office, but there’s not a more perfect fit to manage our new California offices,” said Terry Conner, Haynes and Boone managing partner. “His work ethic and character make him the ideal administrator for our growing practices within the vibrant California legal marketplace.”

Current Orange County and San Jose office administrative partners -- former MacPherson, Kwok partners Greg Michelson and Clark Stone, respectively -- will continue in those roles, Mr. Conner said.

Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Moscow, providing a full spectrum of legal services. With almost than 550 attorneys, Haynes and Boone is ranked among the largest law firms in the nation by The National Law Journal.
