Haynes and Boone Lawyers Contribute to SMU Annual Texas Survey

Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers have contributed three articles to the latest edition of the SMU Annual Texas Survey published by the SMU Law Review Association.

Partner Deb Coldwell, with Counsel Iris Gibson and Associates Jamee Cotton, Sally Dahlstrom and Lissette Villarruel, wrote the Franchise Law chapter, outlining recent franchise law developments related to the duty of good faith and fair dealing, vicarious liability, the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and trademark claims.

Penning the Intellectual Property chapter, Partners David McCombs and Phillip Philbin, with Associates Ellie Simpson and Bethany Hrischuk, provided updates to copyright, patent and trademark law, citing significant cases from both the Federal Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court, including Kimble v. Marvel and Intellectual Ventures v. Capital One Bank, among others.

Partners Jeff Dorrill and Matthew Schindel co-authored the chapter on Partnership Law, detailing recent decisions spanning topics such as creation of a partnership, fiduciary duties, direct versus derivative claims, alter-ego doctrine, purpose clauses and attorneys’ fees. Associates Alex Ingle and Josh Lewey contributed to the chapter.
