Texas Lawyer Honors Nina Cortell as One of the Winning Women of 2014

DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Nina Cortell has been selected as one of Texas Lawyer’s Winning Women of 2014, recognizing outstanding female Lone Star State trial and appellate lawyers.

“As the first female hire, Nina has been a pioneer at the firm and in helping open up the profession to women everywhere,” said Managing Partner Terry Conner. “As an outstanding lawyer and leader, Nina is very deserving of this honor, and we congratulate her.”

At Haynes and Boone, Cortell has had a distinguished career in the trial and appellate courts, representing corporations, public entities and individuals in cases that have put her at the forefront of Texas litigation practice. Throughout her 38-year career, Cortell has achieved significant results in the appellate courts and prior to appeal, securing landmark decisions and reducing verdicts by millions of dollars prior to judgment and on appeal.

In addition, Cortell has been an active contributor to the community. Her extensive community service includes presidency of University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association and founding of the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas School of Law. She also serves on the prestigious Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and is a member of the American Law Institute.

Cortell was one of 20 selected for the honor. Honorees were selected based on peer nomination and research conducted by the editorial team.

The complete list of honorees will be published in the September edition of the Texas Lawyer and winners will be honored at an award luncheon on Oct. 8 in Dallas at the Belo Mansion.
