The Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) has honored Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Tim Newman with its Kirk Watson Excellence in Leadership Award.
“On behalf of our entire organization, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your extraordinary contributions to TYLA during this bar year,” TYLA President Victor Flores stated in a letter to Tim. “You have helped make TYLA’s year a success.”
The award recognizes a sitting TYLA director who best exemplifies the qualities and leadership skills shared by former TYLA President and retired Texas Sen. Kirk Watson – an attorney, former Austin mayor, and advocate for public education and affordable healthcare. The TYLA award honors a director who has consistently exceeded expectations by taking initiative and inspiring others to work collaboratively, demonstrated transformative leadership skills that empower others to succeed, and promoted the goals and objectives of TYLA over his or her own interests or accolades.

TYLA is focused on serving Texas communities to enrich and improve lives. It facilitates the administration of justice, fosters respect for the law, and advances the role of the legal profession in serving the public. Tim joined the organization’s board in 2016 and has since led the launch of the group’s Young Gunners podcast, collected nearly 1,000 children’s books for Bookshelves in Courtrooms, helped organize CLE roadshows across the state, developed resources promoting attorney wellness, and contributed to numerous other TYLA initiatives. The Kirk Watson Excellence in Leadership Award caps a series of accolades for Tim. He received the TYLA President's Award in 2019 and was named Outstanding Director in 2018 and Outstanding First-Year Director in 2017.
As a litigator at Haynes and Boone, Tim represents clients in government enforcement actions, internal investigations, and cybersecurity matters. A former federal law clerk, Tim also defends clients in complex litigation, including class actions and securities litigation.
Tim was selected among the Dallas area’s leading professionals “Under 40” by People Newspapers, D Magazine Partners (2019) and included in Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Thomson Reuters (2016-2019).
