Latino CLD Selects Lissette Villarruel for Inaugural Leadership Academy

The Latino Center for Leadership Development (LCLD) recently inducted Haynes and Boone, LLP Associate Lissette Villarruel into the inaugural class of its leadership academy, a one-year education and leadership training program for promising leaders interested in serving their community through policy roles and elected office.

The mission of the LCLD is to cultivate a pipeline of Latino leaders, optimize their strengths and talents and engage them in thought and practice to meet the growing demand for leadership. The newly formed academy aims to provide promising Latino leaders with a set of knowledge, skills, experiences and networks necessary to assume positions of influence with a focus on policy and politics and succeed while in those positions.

"The Latino CLD is thrilled to have Ms. Villarruel as part of our inaugural academy,” said LCLD Founder Jorge Baldor. “Her personal and professional experiences, along with her dedication to the Latino community, make her a valuable asset to this cohort."

At the firm, Villarruel is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation and appeals in state and federal courts. Villarruel has represented a diverse group of clients in matters related to business and contract litigation, breach of fiduciary duty, healthcare and government regulation.

In addition to serving her clients, Villarruel has served her community through pro bono work and community service. Working with a team of Haynes and Boone lawyers, Villarruel helped obtain asylum for a Sudanese mother and her four children facing imminent physical harm and persecution.
