Lynne Liberato in Texas Lawyer: Houston Law School Working on New Name Amid Trademark Suit

October 31, 2016

South Texas College of Law in Houston, facing a court order to quit using its new name of Houston College of Law, is negotiating with a "benefactor" who will sponsor a new name the school hopes to adopt soon.

Lynne Liberato, a partner in Haynes and Boone in Houston who represents South Texas College of Law, told a federal judge during a court hearing on Oct. 26 that the Houston law school's board is expected to approve a new name by Nov. 4 and it would be announced shortly after that...

Liberato told Ellison her client is talking with "a patron" whose name will be included in the school's new name. She said Houston will also be in the new name, but probably at the end of it. Following the hearing, Liberato declined to say if the "benefactor" is an alum of South Texas College of Law, or if the individual is living.
