Hong Shi, co-chair of the firm's Artificial Intelligence practice, assists clients to obtain, enforce, defend, and license intellectual property rights over a wide variety of complex technologies.

Hong helps clients with strategic counseling, patent portfolio management, and licensing across numerous technological fields, including artificial intelligence/deep learning, autonomous driving, robotic surgical systems, computational imaging and miniature lens design for mobile devices, telecommunications, semiconductor device design and fabrication, computer hardware, software design and e-commerce systems.

Hong frequently represents clients in post-grant proceedings including inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and reexaminations, and has obtained successful outcomes for some of the largest technology companies in the world. Clients rely on Hong’s comprehensive IPR experience in connection with all phases of patent office trials, including petition drafting, discovery, briefing, oral argument and appeal.

Hong is active in efforts to support diversity and inclusion in the legal community, and has been serving as a board member of Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association (MAMAs) Austin Chapter. Hong also serves as a volunteer prosecutor for the City of Austin, and has tried five criminal misdemeanor cases to a jury and obtained guilty verdicts in all of them.
