Robert Ziemian has a diverse technological background and has worked prosecuting, enforcing and licensing patents in the areas of chemical engineering and industrial process flow, automotive technologies, medical devices, telecom, e-commerce, targeted marketing, software and electronic gaming. His experience focuses on a holistic perspective in patent portfolio-building that includes filing and prosecuting patents, analyzing existing assets and identifying and acquiring new assets. Robert crafts comprehensive intellectual property strategies, designing suites of product focused protection that include trademarks, trade dress, design patents, and utility patents. Such protection is targeted to company specific business objectives and is shaped to protect and grow business.

Robert enforces patents and trademarks on a global basis and utilizes a diverse set of solutions to solve issues with infringers. In 2009 he was part of a patent litigation team that successfully settled a major patent infringement action for $70 million, which was one of the top ten IP wins that year.

Robert understands the value of patent landscaping and portfolio review and devises numerous innovative solutions when possible to help clients maximize their intellectual property (IP) assets. He has previously worked with a team of top-level scientists and engineers in order to identify and acquire value patents in a variety of fields, including semiconductors, optics, software, telecom, e-commerce, electronic gaming, social networking, and electronics. His past work experiences include positions at entities such as TPL, Inc., Bose, the Navy Office of General Counsel, MWH Global, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

Haynes and Boone Helps Colorado Client Obtain ITC Orders Against Patent Infringers

A Haynes and Boone team led by Denver Partner Robert Ziemian helped a firm client, Nite Ize, Inc., (Nite Ize) secure a General Exclusion Order from the International Trade Commission (ITC) excluding from importation all products covered by certain Nite Ize patents related to their Steelie ecosystem of hands-free mobile device mounts. Additionally, the ITC issued 16 specific exclusion orders against primarily Chinese companies, preventing them from importing knockoff mobile device holders into the United States.
