Seasoned corporate lawyer Bill McDonald has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP’s Houston office as a partner in the firm’s Capital Markets and Securities Practice.
“We are thrilled to welcome a lawyer of the caliber of Bill, who has considerable experience handling complex M&A and securities matters in our key industry sectors, including energy and private equity,” Managing Partner Tim Powers said. “He will be a wonderful resource for our clients.”
McDonald has experience negotiating and structuring mergers and stock and asset acquisitions involving public and private entities; representing issuers in public and private offerings of equity and debt securities; advising private equity firms and their portfolio companies on a wide variety of transactions, and negotiating general contracts and secured transactions.

McDonald most recently was a partner at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP.
“Bill has had a long career in the corporate and oil and gas legal communities in Houston, with 30 years of experience representing oil and gas service companies, midstream companies, and clients in other industries,” said Partner Jeff Nichols, co-chair of Haynes and Boone’s Energy Practice Group. “He will fit in well with our growing oil and gas and capital markets practices.”
McDonald’s practice has included significant involvement with companies in the energy and oilfield services industries. He has advised energy clients on a wide variety of transactional matters, including the negotiation and documentation of the sale and acquisition of companies and assets, such as oilfield service companies and gas processing plants and gathering systems.
McDonald will complement Haynes and Boone’s energy team, which has added prominent lawyers over the past year, including Houston Partners Chad Mills, Craig Stahl and Jeffrey Kuehnle.
