Kit Addleman in Law360: SEC Grapples With Monthlong Backlog, Prioritizes Actions

January 30, 2019

Law360 quoted Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Kit Addleman in an article about what the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission can expect following the end of the 35-day shutdown of the federal government.

Here is an excerpt:

Many divisions of the agency said they will address filings, submissions and requests in the order they were received. SEC staff is again available to answer questions, though the agency noted there might be a lag in response times.

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Kit Addleman said a few [SEC] staff members called her Monday about matters she had already addressed in emails they had simply not read yet.

Yet looming large over the renewed operations is the fact the government could shut down again if lawmakers don’t reach a deal on border wall funding by Feb. 15.

“My approach definitely will be to try and get the staff to focus on some of what I consider to be priority matters in the upcoming three weeks,” Addleman said. “But I fear that the government staff folks are not going to be motivated to move as quickly given that three weeks from now they could end up back in the same situation.”
