Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Laura Prather was a featured guest on “Y’all-itics”, a podcast from WFAA, the ABC television station in Dallas-Fort Worth. The podcast covered the fight for transparency and public records connected to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde.
A judge sided with Prather and Haynes Boone and ordered the records released in November, but Texas officials are appealing the decision, delaying the release of long-awaited information and potentially preventing the families from moving forward with lawsuits against the state.
“I absolutely think it's a stalling tactic,” Prather said firmly. “I mean, the grounds of the appeal is basically that they don't agree with the trial court's judgment. And what the trial court ruled was that disclosure of this information won’t interfere with the investigation. Why? Well in part because the shooter’s dead. And because the investigation is complete.”
