Restructuring Practitioner Geoffrey T. Raicht Brings Sophisticated Practice to Haynes and Boone's New York Office

August 09, 2016
Geoffrey T. Raicht, a veteran insolvency lawyer who has handled numerous company-side restructurings for a wide array of public and private corporate clients and cross-border Chapter 15 proceedings, has moved to the Haynes and Boone, LLP New York office as partner.

Raicht brings significant restructuring experience, including representations of one of the largest providers of home medical equipment and related products and services in the United States (and its 114 subsidiaries) in their Chapter 11 cases, a major natural gas pipeline entity in its out-of-court workout, and serving as U.S. restructuring counsel for a Colombian energy exploration and production company.

His international background includes counseling debtors in cross-border proceedings, foreign court-appointed liquidators and administrators of insolvent funds and corporates, as well as foreign investors.  Raicht is considered a Chapter 15 thought leader who has authored numerous articles on the subject. His Chapter 15 experience includes handling the New York filing for a failed Cayman Island bank, a North Sea-based shipping firm with London headquarters, a U.K. insurance company in solvent runoff and the asset manager of Bear Stearns’ feeder funds in their Chapter 15 cases in 2005.

During his 17 years of practice, whether it's companies and their boards of directors seeking to navigate a distress situation, hedge funds or private equity funds looking to either make a strategic investment or maximize their recovery or foreign court-appointed officers seeking ancillary relief from U.S. courts, they have all sought his advice on restructuring matters.

"Geoff is a wonderful complement to our talented and burgeoning New York bankruptcy group," said Ian Peck, chair of the firm's Bankruptcy and Reorganization Section. "With our new London office, our established presence in Shanghai and our growing footprint in Latin America, his cross-border insolvency experience is certain to be in demand. We are very proud and fortunate that he chose our firm to launch the next stage of his impressive career."

Peck said he expects Raicht to be a leader of the firm's New York bankruptcy team.

Raicht said his decision to move to Haynes and Boone was predicated on both the firm's culture and its nationally recognized work in the energy sector.

"Haynes and Boone is known for its skill in using teamwork to put the client first in its representations, which dovetails nicely with my own practice philosophy," Raicht said. "On the business side, the firm's deep bench of energy-focused restructuring lawyers makes it extremely attractive, especially given my past work representing energy exploration and production companies in the United States and in Latin America. It is the perfect fit for my practice."

Raicht is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL).

The Haynes and Boone Bankruptcy and Business Restructuring Practice Group has long been recognized as one of a handful of teams in the nation fully equipped to handle the largest and most complex out-of-court financial restructurings and Chapter 11 reorganization cases.

With partners and counsel that have been practicing on average for 25 years or more, and a dedicated team of well-trained associates, the firm possesses the knowledge, experience and skills to tackle clients’ toughest problems.

Chambers USA, Chambers & Partners, reported that Haynes and Boone bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers “consistently become experts on the matters they are handling, and their work product is flawless.”
