Benchmark Litigation has again ranked Haynes Boone Partners Michelle Scheffler and Christos Papapetrou among the nation’s leading litigators age 40 and under. It is the fifth consecutive year both lawyers have been included in the ranking.
Attorneys named to Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 “40 & Under Hot List,” published by Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, were chosen through several phases of research, including a review of their recent case work, assessments by attorneys at peer legal institutions, and client feedback on their performances. Those selected handle major “high-stakes or precedent-setting” cases and have shown an ability to “adapt to rapidly changing times.”
Michelle is based in the firm’s Houston office and serves as co-chair of the Oil and Gas Practice Group. She is a solutions-oriented trial lawyer who counsels clients in complex commercial litigation matters. While her practice focuses primarily on clients in the oil and gas industry, she also handles trial and appellate matters in fields involving contract disputes, property rights, and business torts. She regularly represents clients in multimillion-dollar lawsuits in both state and federal courts across the country.
In June, Law360 selected Michelle as a Rising Star in Energy. She is one of only five lawyers nationwide to earn the distinction.
Christos is a partner in the firm’s New York office who has been recognized nationally and in New York for handling high-profile, complex commercial litigation matters for a diverse range of clients. He has significant experience handling complex civil disputes, including securities and consumer class actions, contract and employment disputes, and breaches of fiduciary duties. He also represents companies and individuals in white-collar criminal matters, regulatory investigations, enforcement proceedings, and internal investigations.
Christos also earned recognition as a “Rising Star” from 2015 to 2018 and a “Super Lawyer” from 2020 to 2021 in the New York Super Lawyers and Rising Stars directory, published by Thomson Reuters.
Haynes Boone is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., London, Mexico City and Shanghai, providing a full spectrum of legal services in energy, technology, financial services and private equity. With 600 lawyers, Haynes Boone is ranked among the largest U.S.-based firms by The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer and The Lawyer. It was recognized for excellence in the BTI Consulting Group’s 2021 “A-Team” report, which identifies the law firms that in-house counsel commend for providing superior client service.
