Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Chelsea Corey has been recognized as Champion of the Year by the Charlotte Triage, a task force that works with Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy (Advocacy Center) and Legal Aid of NC – Charlotte (LANC) to provide crucial pro bono legal and intentional leadership to best serve the community’s critical needs.
Corey is the second-ever recipient of this award from Charlotte Triage, which began designating Champion of the Year honors in 2023. Corey is a leader in the Healthcare Enrollment arm of the Charlotte Triage. She also advocates for each practice area within the Advocacy Center and LANC to recruit, train and support additional pro bono volunteers.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized as Champion of the Year by Charlotte Triage,” Corey said. “It’s a privilege to work alongside such passionate volunteers and partner organizations as we strive to address the needs in the Charlotte community with our pro bono service.”
As a Healthcare Enrollment Champion, Corey and other enrollment volunteers help North Carolina residents sign up for Affordable Care Act marketplace healthcare and Medicaid. Each year, more than 1 million North Carolinians enroll in marketplace healthcare and nearly 3 million North Carolinians enrolled in Medicaid with the 2023 expansion.
"Quality, affordable healthcare truly changes the lives of those enrolled,” Corey added. “The Charlotte Triage program works hard to ensure that the greatest number of North Carolina residents can receive the healthcare they need and deserve.”
Haynes Boone is proud to count Corey among its pro bono champions. Haynes Boone’s pro bono triumphs have been recognized nationwide, most recently with the firm being named an Equal Access to Justice Champion by Houston Volunteer Lawyers in August for the firm’s pro bono efforts in the Greater Houston area. The firm also received the prestigious W. Frank Newton Award on behalf of the State Bar of Texas for providing legal services to the less fortunate in Texas, the 2023 Outstanding Achievement Award from The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, and the 2023 Law Firm of the Year award from the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program.
