Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Brian Kwok has been named to the 2020 Lawyers of Color Power List. The 5th Annual Power List highlights the nation’s most influential minority attorneys and non-minority diversity advocates.
Brian and other honorees will be celebrated at a reception Feb. 26 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
“We are proud that Brian has been recognized for his contributions to the firm’s diversity efforts,” Director of Diversity and Inclusion Jennifer Reddien said. “Brian is a strong advocate for diverse representation in the legal profession.”
Brian serves as an advisor with PracticePro, a San Francisco-based legal education startup. He helped spearhead Haynes and Boone’s partnership with PracticePro for the Diversity Scholar Program, which recruits diverse law students for a training and coaching program designed to help them succeed in school and legal practice.
Brian also leads the firm’s efforts with the Google Legal Summer Institute (LSI) – a unique in-house law firm experience in which traditionally underrepresented 2L law school students spend a week at Google, followed by a full summer internship with a partner law firm.
Brian helps clients build, manage, and successfully monetize patent portfolios. He evaluates patent portfolios and negotiates deals ranging from a few hundred thousand to many billions of dollars. Brian also counsels clients through pre-litigation conflicts to resolve assertions and licensing disputes before patent litigation ensues. An experienced engineer, he provides clients with insightful and pragmatic advice, based on his ability to understand deeply the technical merit of a case and to explain its intersection with legal strategy.
Lawyers of Color is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization devoted to promoting diversity in the legal profession and advancing democracy and equality in marginalized communities. The organization produces events, conferences, and publications, including Power Issue, Caucus Issue, Hot List, and Legal Diversity Issue.
