Texas Lawyer has named Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner David L. McCombs one of its 2020 Texas Trailblazers.
Published in the October/November issue of Texas Lawyer, the Trailblazers listing recognizes professionals in Texas who have moved the needle in the legal industry. Honorees were selected for their efforts in making significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector.
Texas Lawyer highlighted McCombs’s patent practice and his role in becoming an” early proponent of using Patent Office review procedures as either a parallel track to the district courts or as a replacement venue.” He is also mentioned as being one of the most active lawyers appearing before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
McCombs says: “I enjoy untangling big knots and simplifying complicated technology so that the decisionmaker can understand it, whether it’s in the federal courts, at the PTAB or in licensing discussions.”
The profile also discusses McCombs’s belief that diversity in technological skills and backgrounds are key in building the next generation of lawyers. He says young lawyers benefit from appearing “before administrative patent judges who welcome them and value their technological fluency.”
