August 15, 2019

Haynes and Boone, LLP Associate Nick Monier has been selected to serve on the Dallas/Fort Worth Teach for America (TFA) Alumni Board for 2019-2020.

The DFW TFA Board supports and empowers the program’s 1,000-member alumni base through organized events and networking opportunities. TFA’s mission is to help close the education gap by placing high-achieving college graduates as teachers in schools with disproportionately low-income students. The program requires a two-year commitment of teachers.

As one of the only private sector members of the TFA board, Monier looks forward to engaging with TFA alumni who may not be directly involved with education but are still passionate about the program’s mission.

Monier served as a TFA Corps member from 2008-2010. He was placed at a school in the South Bronx, where he taught fourth and fifth grade special education students. He says he is able to use many of the lessons he learned while teaching in all aspects of his life.

One of Monier’s favorite memories was when he took three of his students to a baseball game in Yankee stadium as a reward for moving up a reading level.

“These kids grew up walking past Yankee stadium every day but were never able to attend a game because they didn’t have the means,” Monier said. “I think it was a memory they won’t forget.”

Founded in 1990, Teach For America works in partnership with urban and rural communities in more than 50 regions across the country to expand educational opportunity for children. commitment to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to end educational inequity. Today, Teach for America is a force of nearly 60,000 alumni and corps members committed to profound systemic change.

Monier represents financial institutions and borrowers in commercial loan transactions.
