Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Laura Whitley participated in Dallas ISD’s Principal for a Day program on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Charles Rice Learning Center.
Dallas ISD’s “Principal for a Day” (PFAD) project brings community leaders into schools with a goal of forging ongoing partnerships with Dallas businesses and helping them understand the challenges and opportunities faced by Dallas schools.
As principal for the day, Laura spent the day with Principal Jennifer Atkins and the teachers and students at Charles Rice Learning Center. Laura helped get the school ready for the Halloween festivities on Friday, read to students during their time in the library, and provided an extra set of hands during cafeteria duty. After the school day ended, she attended a reception where all guest principals convened with Dr. Michael Hinojosa (Dallas ISD Superintendent) principals, and other business leaders to recap the day. They discussed their experiences and plans for ongoing engagement with Dallas ISD Schools.
Laura enjoyed spending time with the Principal Atkins, learning about the day-to-day operations of the school and sharing ideas. When asked of her experience, she expressed, “It was such a privilege to spend the day at Charles Rice Learning Center. I am looking forward to continuing to develop relationships with the Charles Rice community. Being on campus allowed for me to better understand how we in the business community can effectively partner with Dallas ISD to help provide a top-quality public education for all students in Dallas. One of my favorite parts of the day was reading with the students. I hope to get back on campus and read with the students again soon.”
