Social media touches a variety of different areas of individuals? lives. It allows people to easily stay in touch with family and friends across the world, follow their favorite celebrity?s random thoughts expressed in 140 characters or less, and receive coupons from stores by ??liking?? or reposting certain information. In fact, it is hard for anyone with access to a computer or other mobile device to avoid being involved in social media in some way.
Social media also involves a variety of different areas of labor and employment law, and, like people with access to computers or other mobile devices, employers cannot avoid or ignore social media and must be familiar with the legal ramifications of their use, and their employees? use, of social media. Although there are many aspects of labor and employment law that social media touches, there are five top issues to watch in 2013, as social media and labor and employment law intersect.
