Robert P. Ziemian
Biography
Robert Ziemian advises clients seeking to protect distinctive products, stop knockoffs and counterfeits, and build enforceable intellectual property portfolios for the e-commerce age. He designs protection schemes involving patents, design patents, trade dress, trademarks, and copyrights, and provides enforcement options that include e-commerce monitoring and takedowns, cease and desist letters, soft enforcement, federal district court litigation, and International Trade Commission proceedings.
Robert builds IP portfolios, enforces patents and trademarks globally, and uses a range of tools to address infringement, particularly at the ITC. His work includes patent and trademark enforcement, patent prosecution, licensing, international trademark and design protection portfolios, and portfolio-building strategies focused on the product features that consumers recognize and value.
Robert’s experience includes consumer products, medical devices, food and beverages, voice coding and data transmission, advanced memory devices, chemical engineering and industrial process flow, automotive technologies, telecom, e-commerce, targeted marketing, software, and electronic gaming. His portfolio work includes filing and prosecuting patents, analyzing existing assets, and identifying and acquiring new assets.
Robert also works on patent landscaping and portfolio review to help clients maximize IP assets. His past work experience includes positions at TPL, Inc., Bose, the Navy Office of General Counsel, MWH Global, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

- Served as lead attorney in obtaining a General Exclusion Order at the International Trade Commission, helping a consumer products client significantly reduce imported knockoffs.
- Served as one of the leads on a team that asserted three patents in the medical device area, argued part of the Markman hearing, and worked with experts to design testing to prove infringement.
- Served on a patent litigation team that successfully settled a major patent infringement action for $70 million, one of the top 10 IP wins that year.
