Haynes and Boone, LLP in London has successfully defended vessel builder Corretaje Maritimo Sud-Americano (CMSA) in the English High Court after Mexican salt mining company Exportadora de Sal (ESSA) challenged an earlier arbitration award on jurisdictional grounds.
On February 9, the English High Court rejected ESSA’s claim that an arbitration tribunal did not have substantive jurisdiction under English law, upholding a multimillion-dollar breach of contract award brought against it by CMSA. …
