Spectrum News in Austin interviewed Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Laura Prather on its Capital Tonight segment March 21 to discuss Sunshine Month, a joint effort of open government groups to promote public awareness.
Prather, who heads the firm’s Media Law Practice Group, also co-chairs the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas’ Legislative Committee.
In the interview, she said the traditional Sunshine Week was extended to a full month because “public awareness needs to be heightened on the issue. We’re talking about issues that every taxpayer has the right to know, and what we learned from last (legislative) session was people just weren’t aware of what the law is right now and what is closed off to them.”
