Haynes Boone Partner Kelli Norfleet recently spoke with Inside Climate News about how the bankruptcy process allows companies to move forward after oilfield pollution, while the public is left struggling to find funds to resolve the environmental damage.
Norfleet told Inside Climate News that there often isn’t much money left by the time environmental costs are being considered during bankruptcy.
“If the money is gone, the money is gone,” said Norfleet, who was not involved with the Heritage Standard case. “So you have to look to other sources to try to cover those costs.”
