Dina Blikshteyn, co-chair of the AI practice at Haynes Boone in New York, notes that in May this year lawyers representing a man suing an airline got into hot water after submitting a brief based on AI-aided research which cited non-existent cases.
“That brought to the forefront that AI can hallucinate and doesn’t always come up with the correct answer,” she says.
She adds, however, that lawyers may also be cautious because the technology is so new.
