Haynes Boone Partner Gavin George spoke with NBC DFW after the Texas Legislature passed one of the country's first major laws regulating technology, as HB 149 was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott after overwhelming votes in the state Capitol.
HB 149 aims to limit the downside of AI while still allowing businesses to innovate and use it. New questions will be raised throughout the next year before the law takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
“AI has supercharged our ability for a lot of us to do our jobs and get information. The flip side to that is it has also supercharged our ability to get misinformation," George told NBC DFW.
